About the Service
Scan & Print is a solution that allows any member of the Técnico Lisboa community to scan, photocopy or print on the device closest to them (Students cannot currently use the service, but it will be made available very soon).

How to use the Scan & Print service?
To use Técnico's centralized printing service, it is necessary to activate the respective service on the service management page (self-service)
Activate serviceAuthentication
With the Técnico card
Authentication is performed by placing the Técnico card near the reader on the left side of the printer's front panel.
With alternate login
In case the user does not have the Técnico card with him, he can authenticate himself at the printer by typing his Técnico ID (istxxxxx) and the password (6-digit sequence) sent by mail when the print service is activated.

Perform authentication at the printer
Approach the Técnico card to the reader on the left side of the printer's front panel and proceed with the desired functionality (copying or scanning).
Setting up the printer on the computer (1st time only)
To print any document, whether in color or black and white, the printer must first be configured on the computer you intend to use, according to the configuration instructions available at:

With the printer installed, simply follow these steps:

Send the document for printing
Use the usual Print command and select the Tecnico Black or Tecnico Color printer, depending on whether you want to print in black or color, respectively.

Move to the equipment
Go to one of the printers available on the Campus, where you want to collect the print.

Perform authentication on the printing system
Approach the Técnico card to the respective area of the printer's interface, to proceed with the authentication or enter the data related to the alternative login (see instructions on authentication).

Select the job(s) and print
The screen shows the queue of jobs sent for printing by the authenticated user.
User can choose:- print a job
(select the option Release Documents; select the job from the list and press Print) - print all jobs
(press Select All followed by Print) - save jobs to print again later
(within a maximum period of 36 hours) - delete one or more jobs because you made a mistake and do not intend to print
(select the job to delete and press Delete)

Approach the Técnico card again to log out of your account and leave the equipment available for the next user.
Cost Allocation
The allocation of costs must be authorized by the head of the unit
The costs of using this service will be automatically charged to the user's unit (cost center or project), regardless of the equipment used or its location.
It will be necessary that the allocation of costs incurred by a given user in using the system be authorized by the person in charge of the unit in question. The document below describes the various steps of the authorization process, which is carried out on the IST Central Applications portal (commonly known as Dot).
Frequently Asked Questions
It is possible to use the Scan & Print service without the Técnico card by performing authentication on any printer of the Scan & Print service through the alternative login (sent by E-mail when the service is activated).
To do so, follow the procedure below:
1. on the printer panel, press the button with the key symbol
2. on the screen choose the option Alternative Login/Alternative Login
3. enter the credentials sent by E-mail:
Primary PIN/Primary PIN - enter the Técnico ID (i.e. istXXXXX)
Password - enter the 6-digit password sent in the E-mail
You just need to go to the printer where you want to carry out the print job.
Print jobs are always sent to a virtual printer (Tecnico Black or Tecnico Color), presented by the print server, where the jobs are stored for 36 hours.
To print your work, just:
1. go to any printer available on Técnico's campuses;
2. authenticate yourself and trigger the completion of printing the pending jobs.
When using the service again, enter the new PIN.
On the next use, validate with the new card (associate the PIN to the new card, the same applies to the previous point)
It's probably not reaching the server, for several reasons.
- or you have the wrong credentials on your computer system
- or the format you are sending is not the national format (A4)
- or the Document has some error that may confuse the print system
Yes. In order to print, photocopy and digitize documents, it is always necessary to authenticate the device (with the Técnico card or with an alternative login).
Jobs submitted for printing are available on the server for 36 hours, so that the user can complete the printing process.
During this period of time, the user can go to a printer and print the submitted documents.
After that time the jobs are deleted.
